RoadID was smart. If you are on a bike ride or run and something happens in which you become unresponsive (Car accident, pass out), it is smart to let people know how they can help you.
I purchased a single Dog tag with silencer (rubber frame) and necklace from for $3.95. I was able to put my name, 2 contact numbers, and my insurance provider.

...The drawback with Dog tags is you can't write a novel on them...but do you REALLY need that? I mean, does somebody really care to read ,"I am invincible."
when they peels your body off the hood of a car?
Long story short, I am totally happy with my $7 Road ID versus $20.
With the number of hits this post is getting, I think it is important to note that RoadID does provide great services for runners and race promoters that the military will never provide.
Although M1A1 tanks make decent race marshalls, you probably don't want to wear bibs provided by the military. This post isn't in any way to 'steal' money from RoadID, but just to provide a cheap alternative for those who aren't at that level.
I realized on my ride the other day that if something were to happen to me, even though I had my wallet with me there was nothing to tell anybody who to call or where to take me.
So RoadID had a genius idea of making tags for you with your name and emergency contact information. RoadID bracelets/anklets only cost $20-$40.
Oh wait! That wasn't RoadID's idea! They have been doing that in the military for decades. Yes. You can get dog-tags for a fraction of the price of RoadID and have it provide the same functionality...You even get 2 sets. (You know, One around your neck and one in your boot in case your head becomes un-attached in battle.)
So yeah. I will be ordering dog-tags this week to make sure that if something happens, my wife will be notified.
