I am starting this blog to help people understand what amount of work it takes to train for triathlons. Many times I get into conversations with people and I get comments like "That should be easy for you...", or "you don't need to train for that..." or along the same lines. I know those people are just trying to have conversation, but they discredit every ounce of effort that triathletes put into their race, no matter what their size.
Everybody in the race has their own tolerance to pain and will power that nobody else will understand...other than God. Everybody in that race teeters right on that edge from the first step into the water to the last step (or crawl) across the line.
To say "that should be easy" is not at all accurate for this sport.
Before I begin, I need to point out that I am a small guy. I am 33 years old, 5'8", and when I started getting serious about my health, I weighed 128lbs.
...See, Im small...
Some of you may say wishingly, "oh, the advantages..." but hold on...and you'll see where my challenges lie. (*cough* bike ride*cough* longest leg of race *cough*)
This blog is going to outline the training that I do.
It is important to note that my workouts are not designed specifically only for triathlons. I am working out to work out, and I am using triathlons as my health 'Guage' each year. I feel that if somebody trains for one specific thing, they can easily miss out on other opportunities.
The posts will most likely be quick posts, as I am not an eloquent writer...but I just want to make sure that it is out there so that people no longer assume that training for this type of race is not always easy.
