I messed up and didn't start reading until about 1/4 in.
I took a gel 2 miles into the ride.
I ate some power bar 11 miles into the ride.
The gel was good. It was nasty squeezing it into my mouth, and the package didn't open easily by using my teeth...but once it was down, it was no problem.
I felt like I was going faster, but I guess not. The gel just made me feel better for while I was going slow.
The power bar was no good. It was very soft, as it had been against me...but unfortunately, it was still hard to eat. It was difficult to chew and 'maintenance' while it was in my mouth. I ate about 2/3rds of it and gave up.
On the way home I have some 'chews' that I will try that I hope will replace the power bar for semi-solids.
This is the ride home. It rained the entire time. It was quite cold until I got my heart rate up.
I ate a GU with caffeine at about 2 miles. I wasn't sure I was going to make it, but I sucked up and stuck through it. I never took the Gu chomp blocks. I drank plenty of water and just went for it.
