It has been a miserable 5 days of being sick. That is the nature of the beast when you have children in and out of your house, though.
Today, I decided to try a new way to work. The temperature around here today is much different that it has been in the past. I wore my tri-gear, fleece pants, running pants, fleece jacket, wind-breaker, and gloves.
Because of the temperature difference, I could have done without most of the fleece. I was a sweaty mess when I got to work.
You can see where I started to feel burned out from being too hot. From mile 10-12, my heart rate dropped, my speed became more stable at a lower speed, which meant I didn't have much drive to go fast.
My new route has several more smaller hills on it, so I am curious as to how I will feel tonight. The hill I chose to go down did not have speed bumps on it or much traffic, So I was able to just get into the big gear and ride it out. It felt really good. I got a new CONSISTENT max speed.
I grew up on pine lake, and when I was a kid, it was a major Summertime operation to ride my bike around the lake. I would ride my bike to friends houses, to fireworks stands, or whatever the need was. It was really odd to just burn right past all of the places that had little memories associated with them. The hills seem much smaller now and I don't pay nearly as much attention to detail as I did.
I let my heart rate go way too high on the hill up to work. At that point, I was up out of my saddle and working to pass a recumbant bike.
You can see the 2 dips in heart rate. Those were 2 times that I had to slow down and relax because I had to bring my heart rate down. I spent too much time over 170 and I needed to get out of that zone to be able to continue riding.
