So there are several sports in which the athletes have 'entrance' music. It is sort of the opposite of "Dead Man walking"...In different areas, I also have specific songs that get me in the zone to compete and win.
For Triathlon, there is a point before the race in which you are standing on the beach surrounded by other athletes. You know that this is not just a race, but an entire day. A very long day in which you don't really know if you are going to make it through.
Aggression is definately NOT what I need in that arena. If I feel aggressive, I will start aggressive, and burn out halfway through the swim.
When I am standing on the beach, surrounded by all the other athletes, I need something that will be encouragement and reminds me that this is a big deal. I need something that relaxes me and encourages me.
For some reason, the guitar riff in this song helps me to shake off nervousness and look at things around me. The lyrics remind me that even though I feel like I am in way over my head, I am part of something that is awesome.
This is the song that I will be playing before the race, and what will be going through my head while standing on the beach preparing.
What is your song?
