It was a great ride. I brought my average speed up from 16.7 to 17.3. I felt that I was working hard the entire time and pushing with every fiber in my body.
It is still very obvious that my body does not enjoy going more than 16 miles. You can see that after 14 miles, my speed has a fairly apparent decrease. I am worried about the race because a bulk majority of the race is beyond that 16 mile mark.
I took a Perpetuem Solid as I got going. I ate a gel pack at 8.5 miles.
When I take a Solid, I feel an energy boost. When I eat gels, they just seem to sit in my stomach. I am sure they help me, but I don't feel a major difference with gels. I definately notice a difference with the solids.
Other people think the Perpetuem Solids are nasty, but if you just keep it in your cheek and chew off small bits of it, you will feel the energy in about 10 minutes. It is very obvious when it digests.
For the Olympic triathlon bike ride, I am going to do the following:
-Grab a tube of Solids, a gel, and a Clif bar.
Eat 2 solids for the first 3-4 miles.
Eat a Gel at Mile 6
Eat 2 more solids at Mile 12
Try to eat some clif bar at Mile 18...We'll see if my stomach will absorb any more food at this point.
In Redmond, a power substation was on fire. I guess a transformer blew and started the station on fire. I was quite close to the location and at one point had to ride through the smoke.
