I went to the pool today to get some swimming in. It was a good morning. My goal was to do the following sets:
4x100 (100 = 2 laps or 4 lengths)
2x200 (200 = 4 laps or 8 lengths)
4x100 (100 = 2 laps or 4 lengths)
Before the 2011 Open-water season, I remember that I was doing about :55/50. That would be about 1:50/100. That was going to be my baseline of expectation. It turns out, the Open-water Season really helped me as I blew that time "out of the water".
The 4x100's I was averaging about 1:38 for each 100. That was a LOT better than I thought it would be.
The 2x200's I did in about 3:25
I only did 2 more 100s...at about 1:40 each.
-After each set, I was quite hot and my heart rate was very high. When I put my face back in the water, it felt quite cool.
-My lower back began getting sore. I think I am going to need to get some video so that I can see what I am doing with my body.
-Even though I didn't fully complete the workout, I feel like it was really good for me. It is definately more difficult than open water because of lanes and walls...but I do swim much faster in the pool than open water.
-I am wondering if I am going to need to get a new wetsuit at some point. Something is telling me that the wetsuit is inhibiting my shoulder movement (pulling down on my shoulders so I can't "reach" as far).
-I think it would be awesome to bring my entire speed up to 1:30/100m. If I can do that, then I can anticipate the following open-water swim times:
By next spring, I would like to be one of the top swimmers out of the water. I know that I have a good solid swim base...Time to pick up speed.
