Today is the first day of the half marathon training for May 5th. The plan calls for a 3 mile run. Lunchtime runs for me have historically been speed interval training which end up being about 3.7-3.8 miles.
I still did the interval training.
I am not going to do the interval training anymore, however. Since I am now doing 3 runs a week, I think it is best to do conservative race pace runs. The intervals generally would force my body into a few days of recovery. I don't really have that any more. Since my body is going to be in a continual recovery process over the next 4 months, I don't feel that there is any need for pushing myself on speed (right now). I am hoping that all of the additional training that I am needing to do will convert to speed on its own.

It was my first run in winter gear. My times were quite a bit slower. I don't know if that was because of a 2-mile treadmill run a couple of days ago or because of wearing the tights, sweatshirt, and gloves. In any case, my speeds were much slower and it felt like a lot of work to get to sub-8 minute miles. I am hoping that the extra power I need to push will help for spring/summer runs.
Running 3 times a week is going to be work. But it will also be work fitting in cycling, swimming, and gym time as well. I am thinking that I am unintentionally doing half-ironman training...
We'll see what happens.
